Madras, Oregon is the best place for viewing the solar eclipse of 2017 for many reasons, such as low light noise, access to clear sky, and current availability. On August 21st, a total solar eclipse will stretch across the United States in what many are calling the Great American Eclipse. Although much of North America will be able to see at least a partial eclipse, Madras is the perfect place for viewing the eclipse in its totality. Upwards of 45,000 people are expected to descend upon this small Central Oregon town to experience the unique event.

What Makes This Total Solar Eclipse So Unique?

In preparation for this unique solar eclipse of 2017, NASA has set up a website with everything you need to know. On its who, what, when and where page for the solar eclipse 2017, NASA said this about the event:

“You can see a partial eclipse, where the moon covers only a part of the sun, anywhere in North America. To see a total eclipse, where the moon fully covers the sun for a short few minutes, you must be in the path of totality. The path of totality is a relatively thin ribbon, around 70 miles wide, that will cross the U.S. from West to East.”

Why Madras Is The Best Place For Seeing Solar Eclipse?

On August 21st, while our eyes are in the skies to catch a glimpse of the Great American Eclipse, many of these eyes will be from those who’ve come to Madras, Oregon for the viewing. According to madraseclipse.comMadras has a 35% better chance for clear skies than any other location along the path of totality – from the Oregon Coast to the South Carolina Coast! This along with the areas virtual non-existent light pollution makes Madras the perfect destination for viewing the solar eclipse 2017.

Due to the unique pattern, many experts agree that Madras, Oregon is one of the best places to view the 2017 eclipse event. Here’s what earthsky.org had to say about what makes Madras a top spot to watch the Great American Eclipse:

“While the Oregon coast is at risk of marine clouds, the interior of this state actually enjoys the nation’s best weather prospects. A bonus is the prospect of seeing Mt. Jefferson to the west darken as totality envelops this prominent peak 17 seconds before totality in Madras.”

Are There Any Places To Stay Still Available In Madras?

Even as far back as 2015, anything and anyplace began to get booked up for the eclipse. Just last June of 2016, Jamie Hale, writer for the Oregonian posted an article with the title, “Rare solar eclipse coming to Oregon in 2017, hotels already booked”.

And while up until now, that has also been the case for many camping facilities as well. That warning was again posted by Jamie in an article posted in November of 2016 with the title, “Campsites opening for the 2017 eclipse — get them while you can”.

That is, up until now.
